3 Alumni from RIT’s Esteemed Packaging Science Program Collaborate on Industry-Disrupting Startup

A strong and multi-disciplinary collaboration between 3 former Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) students—Robin Patel (CAST ’11), Marc Hyman (CAST ’06) and Ken Wong (Cast ’86)—has resulted in the successful creation of an industry-disrupting start-up e-commerce website called The Packaging Company.

The Packaging Company was launched in 2016 as a North American-based online retailer. Its focus recognizes and assists in the challenges that all retailers (brick-and-mortar, online-only, or both brick-and-mortar and online) face with their packaging processes after checkout. In today’s ever-growing world of e-commerce, every business requires its own custom packaging solutions, both for packaging their own products, and for the safe and efficient delivery of their customer orders. The Packaging Company provides packaging materials and custom packaging options to businesses of all sizes and types, without the need for unreasonable minimum order quantities or tiered pricing breaks. This focus on breaking away from traditional selling practices, by making quality packaging available to all potential users, means The Packaging Company is truly changing the way companies do business in the worlds of e-commerce and packaging.

As a testament to the progress and success of this start-up, The Packaging Company has recently been recognized by Canada Post, being named winner of the prestigious “Most Disruptive Start-Up Award” at the 2017 Canada Post E-commerce Innovation Awards™. Receiving this notable distinction from such a strong and respected organization validates The Packaging Company and its focus of making custom packaging solutions available to all businesses that need them. Read our Newswire.ca press release for more information on The Packaging Company and its win at the 2017 Canada Post Awards.

Robin, Marc and Ken would like to express their gratitude towards Rochester Institute of Technology, the College of Applied Science & Technology and their respective communities for all their support, while also congratulating everyone at The Packaging Company for their well-deserved Canada Post Awards win.
